about

Released initially on the LP “Mälestusi Kodust” (1978), this bagpipe mimicking jazz-funk piece is composed by the founding father of Estonian jazz, Uno Naissoo. The instrumental album features a 'who’s who' of local virtuosos: Jaan Kuman Instrumental Ensemble, Helmut Aniko on flute, Tõnu Naissoo on piano, and Lembit Saarsalu on sax. As early as 1947, Naissoo formed a band called Swing Club and went on to organize the infamous Tallinn Jazz Festival (1949-1967), which made Tallinn the capital of Jazz in the Soviet Union. As an instrumentalist he could faultlessly play accordion, double-bass, althorne, valve trombone, and was capable of improvising on each of them. As an educator, he established the pop music department in the Tallinn Music School, which made way for Estonian artists to become successful in the wider USSR.
