This unreleased cover of Finnish singer Carita Holmström’s “Näät vain silmin,” merges psychedelic soul with pop-jazz. The artist, Tiiu Varik, debuted on TV as a 13 year old, thereafter becoming a child star. Described as a humble family-oriented person, her unique timbre alongside her heartfelt style charmed listeners and colleagues. She toured for over 20 years, including jazz festivals in the 60s. The band backing “You Only See Your Eyes” (tr.) is the Ants Müüri Ensemble, conducted by her husband. In 1978, after the birth of her son, she retreated from the public eye and continued as a music teacher in the Tallinn Sports School. She also guided vocal ensembles and an all-girl circus band, Lüübik. In the Estonian Radio archive there are a lot of Estonian translations of international hits written and sung by Tiiu Varik.
